Air Liquide, Houpu form JV to build hydrogen refill stations in China

The agreement is in line with the 13th five-year plan of the Chinese government to reinforce clean mobility

Chengdu Huaqi Houpu Holding co. Ltd and Air Liquide have reportedly formed a joint venture aimed at the development, production as well as distribution of hydrogen refilling stations in the Chinese market.

Sources familiar with the matter commented that the joint venture, named Air Liquide Houpu Hydrogen Equipment, will allow both the companies to mutually promote the development of hydrogen station network in China.

Supposedly, this collaboration will combine the experience of Air Liquide in clean hydrogen mobility solutions with the experience of Houpu in construction and production of natural gas refilling stations in the market of China.

Senior Vice-President of Air Liquide, François Darchis stated that the formation of this joint venture with Houpu shows the readiness of the Chinese market players for the contribution to decarbonise transportation, lower urban pollution, and protect the environment.

In addition, the company is enabling the advancement of hydrogen mobility along with its adoption by various users. This commitment aligns with the firm’s climate objectives which is more substantial now as China has become the world’s largest car market, Darchis added.

Sources mentioned that the agreement is in line with the 13th five-year plan of the Chinese government. The government’s objective is to reinforce clean mobility through the sale and development of fuel cell electric vehicles.

Apparently, the partnership demonstrates the contribution of Air Liquide towards addressing the challenge of the clean mobility and energy transition by providing alternative energy solutions.

For the uninitiated, Air Liquide is a French-based company which provides industrial gases and services to several industries including electronic, medical, and chemical manufacturers.
