American automobile manufacturer Ford has reportedly formed two auto businesses, Ford Model e and Ford Blue. These auto units are geared towards continuous transformation of the company’s automotive business and acceleration of electric and connected vehicles globally.

In May 2021, Jim Farley, Ford’s CEO and President, unveiled the Ford+ plan to serve as the biggest opportunity for value creation and growth since the large-scale production of its Model T.

The recent formation of two distinct but interdependent auto businesses, along with the Ford Pro business, is expected to help unleash the potential of the Ford+ plan and gain a competitive advantage over other legacy automakers and new EV companies.

For the record, Ford Model e will retain and attract the best software, design, engineering, and UX talent. The unit will also embrace a clean-sheet approach to scale connected and electric products and services for commercial, retail, and shared mobility. It will also develop key capabilities and technologies like EV batteries, platforms, and e-motors to design breakthrough vehicles.

On the other hand, Ford Blue will exercise the automotive expertise of Ford to strengthen its vehicle lines including F-Series; offer tailored brand and vehicle experiences; deliver personalized and connected experiences powered by embedded and software systems; and cut manufacturing, quality, and product costs.

Recently, Ford has raised its long-term financial and operational targets, including plans to produce above 2 million EVs annually by 2026, representing one-third of its global volume. The automaker has also reiterated its commitment to carbon neutrality by 2050 and announced plans to use 100% renewable, local electricity across manufacturing operations by 2035.

Following the creation of Ford Model e and Ford Blue, Farley will assume the role of Ford Model e’s President, while Doug Field and Marin Gjaja will serve as Chief EV and Digital Systems Officer and Chief Customer Officer respectively.

Meanwhile, Kumar Galhotra and Stuart Rowley will become Ford Blue’s President and Chief Transformation and Quality Officer respectively. Also, Hau Thai-Tang will be Chief Industrial Platform Officer of Ford’s industrial platform.
