The Green Solutions (TGS) and Black & Veatch have reportedly inked an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) to upgrade the production of green ammonia and green hydrogen in Vietnam.

Under the deal, TGS and Black & Veatch are focusing on generating nearly 30,000 tons of green hydrogen and 180,000 tons of green ammonia per year to support the efforts of regional decarbonization.

According to Winnie Huynh, the Chief Executive Officer of TGS, the company is dedicated to implementing the most novel technologies in renewable energy in the country. A collaboration with Black & Veatch will enable the company to integrate best global practices to the requirements of Asia and contribute to Vietnam’s zero-carbon future.

TGS has hired Black & Veatch to examine the production as well as the storage of green hydrogen in Vietnam using wind or solar power supplied across the grid.

The study also comprises the development of a green ammonia production facility along with a technology and plant configuration review, order of magnitude cost estimates, tentative mitigation, and evolution risk, levelized cost calculations, and conceptual design.

The initial development funds for the project will be provided by Augustus Global Investments.

Fadi Krikor, the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Augustus Global Investments cited that the company consolidates the ESG (environmental, social, and corporate governance) factors in its processes of portfolio and investment management. Krikor added that working with companies like Black & Veatch and The Green Solutions will help in achieving the decarbonization ambitions of Asia.

The Memorandum of Understanding is a response to the region’s optimistic approach towards green fuels like ammonia and hydrogen. As per a 2022 Asia Electric Report from Black & Veatch, nearly 73 percent of respondents consider hydrogen as the future of fuselage beyond this decade.

As a global construction, consulting, procurement, and engineering partner, Black & Veatch has robust experience in the development of natural gas feedstocks and renewable energy, hydrogen generation and purification, water treatment for industrial applications, selection of cost-effective storage technology, and hydrogen compression.
